As promised, I have the part 2 to my
Day in the Life Post (You can read Part 1 of my
Day in the Life -Before Baby here.). I guess while doing this I realized that I'm doing most of the same things I was doing back before we had an infant in the house but it's taking a looootttttt longer. And my standards are way lower. Andddddd, I'm not personally embroidering a Valentine necklace for each kid in Oliver & Peyton's classrooms.
But besides that, totally the same.
In all seriousness, though, I was actually surprised to see that I have been getting anything done. I must be on some kind of autopilot because I feel like all I do is feed the baby while looking at a mess, change the baby's diaper while thinking that I have to pay bills, rock the baby while stepping over a pile of laundry... etc, etc. (I'm really trying to not let it bother me. Dylan is going to grow so fast- I know this from experience. I refuse to let this delicious infant stage pass me by because I'm worrying about washing the dishes.)
I do have a disclaimer that this was a pretty easy day- Dylan slept for the most part and most of the day
was taken up by the appointment (Plus- and this is key!- Jon got home from work early. The end of the day is when it all kind of falls apart.) I suppose if you're doing a Day in the Life with an infant you have to do a few days and split the difference because no day is really the same.
In any case, here is one of my days. Enjoy!:
March 2015-
A Day in the Life
(After Baby):
| 6:15 am- Time to get up. Dylan was only up for 2 feedings overnight, but in between would only sleep if she was laying on me, so I only got half-sleep last night. I don't want to get out of bed. I'm hoping Dylan will sleep while I get the kids ready for school! |
| 6:30: Every morning, getting Peyton dressed is a battle. She says she doesn't want to go to school because she doesn't love it (but I know she does because she never wants to leave when I pick her up everyday!) |
| I try to give her breakfast, but her school offers a free lunch every morning so it's no big deal if she's not hungry. Lately, she'll eat pancakes (made in bulk over the weekend) but only if i cut them into bunny shapes. I quickly pack her lunch, which I was too tired to do last night. |

| 7:00- Peyton and J head off to work/school. |
| This is the mess that Peyton leaves behind- it's pretty much the only mess that gets cleaned up today, but only because it comes between me and food.. |
| Ollie is playing on the computer (Games on PBS Kids) while I pack his lunch. Lately he won't eat any breakfast- besides milk- which worries me because the next opportunity he has to eat at school is after 11. |
| 7:15-8:15 Ollie and I play cars & monster trucks. I get him dressed somewhere in there. The baby is still sleeping, which is nice because I get some quality one-on-one with Ollie. |
| While we are playing cars, I notice that the floor is is desperate need of a Swiffering. Spoiler alert: Doesn't get done today. |
| 8:15 Ollie and I walk down to meet the van. He always likes to check the mailbox in the morning, in case any packages were delivered for him overnight :) |
| 8:20- Ollie's off to school. |
| 8:21- Baby's still sleeping. I get a grand idea to take advantage and have a shower... |
8:23 ...butttt as soon as I walk in the house she wakes up. Top knot it is!
Also, I'm gonna be completely honest here and tell you that I tried on like, 4 outfits. NONE of my pants fit (besides maternity leggings). I finally settle on my biggest pair of jeans and do the old elastic trick around the button. |
| 8:45- After I feed Dylan, I consider putting her in the Ergo and tackling my sink full of dishes (some from last night), but I'm having some sort of hypoglycemic fit and require food. I make breakfast-oatmeal- one handed while holding her. |
| I eat in the armchair in the family room because it's more comfortable to hold her there while eating. |
| 9:00- After breakfast, Dylan goes in the Ergo and we do tackle those dishes. It feels like we accomplished so much today, haha! |
9:15- Dylan has an appointment with the Audiologist today. I pack up the diaper bag and some bills I hope to pay during her appointment (I was told it would be 2 hours of testing, but I'm not sure if I'll be in the room with her or not?).
**Update: Bills didn't end up getting paid on this day** |
| I get her dressed and start to put her in her car seat... but she has a blowout (She is the queen of blowouts, btw)! I re-dress her and we are out the door by 10:05. ( I had hoped to leave at 10, so not too bad.) PS, I love her "Did I do that?" face here :) |
| 10:30 Dylan fell asleep in the car ride over (it was 30 minutes away) I'm hoping this didn't mess up the testing. She's starving because I was holding off until the appointment, hoping it would get her to sleep. |
| Anddd..... |
| ...she is wide awake. If she doesn't sleep, we have to re-schedule. I don't want to worry about her hearing for any longer, so I nurse her until she falls asleep and we are able to complete the testing. She PASSES on both sides! Yay!!! I spend several minutes in the parking lot sending texts to family members to let them know. |
1:15 We are home and Dylan is wide awake. After feeding her, I try to put her down in her Mamaroo so I can make some lunch but NOPE. I make lunch while holding her. Was gonna have a sandwich but that's too hard to make one handed.

| So coffee and yogurt it is. |
| Making lunch with a sleeping little nugget on my shoulder. |
| We catch up on the Bachelor while I eat my lunch. Dylan really wants to know who he picks... |
| really. |
Was gonna do fold laundry today but... nope. (Update: Got one bin done and it sat in our room for 4 days before I put it away.)
| 2:35- Since I have a few minutes to kill before we go pick up Peyton, I clean up the kids' toys. Also, I have a babysitter coming over to get Ollie off the van and I still have a small amount of pride. |
| Little lady is fast asleep on the 35 minute drive to Peyton's school. |
| 3:15- Arrive at Peyton's school to pick her up |
| Like every day, she doesn't want to leave. Stages a protest on the stairs... |
| Then runs away a few times. I can't chase her because I have the baby carrier. End up threatening early bed time. She finally agrees to go to the car. |
| 4:00 And of course poor Dylan is wide awake- and pissed- now. |
| Pey eats a snack in the car on the way home and makes funny faces at Dylan which seems to calm her down. She eventually falls back to sleep. |
| 4:45 At home, we get Ollie and our babysitter in the car to drive her home (she doesn't have her license yet.) Ollie doesn't want to get in the car so I have to bribe them with Dunkin Donuts. (Peyton gets a bagel, Ollie gets hash browns. Pey has a fit because I won't let her get a "pink bagel with sprinkles") |
| 5:15 When we get home, DADDY IS THERE. It's the best surprise ever! He plays with the kiddos while I make a little dinner. (Bagels and sandwiches, fancy fancy!) |
| I add some fruit and deli meat to the Dunkin's loot and that's dinner. Their dinner isn't always this atrocious, but I feel like I have to be honest here. |
6:15 We head upstairs to put on jammies and read books. Ollie starts to purposely annoy Peyton- he loves to get her riled up... And it works. We have to tell her she'll miss out on stories if she doesn't calm down.
| She calms down. Pete the Cat is our fav. |
| 7:15- After we put the big kids to bed, I am seriously ready to go myself... but someone is awfully... |
| awfully awake (Rightfully so! Kid was forced to sleep for the hearing test then spent another 2 hours in the car!) so it was looking like we had a long night ahead of us. |
| Then I remember we are out of milk. I feed Dylan and leave her with Jon. |
| I consider to go to Stop & Shop for a major haul, but I panic being away from the baby and end up going down the street to the smaller market just for the milk... When I get back I see that I could have gone for the haul- they are a cozy duo. |
| 8:15 I run upstairs to throw on some sweats and come back down to lay out lunchboxes for the morning before cuddling up with the baby on the couch, where I fall asleep almost immediately. Besides trudging upstairs at some point and feeding the baby a few more times, that's my day! |
This is such a fun project and I know I'll enjoy looking back on it in years to come. Even looking back on last year's was kind of a trip for me- Life changes so fast! You kind of forget about old routines when you move on to new ones.
I was thinking, I'd love to see what other people's Day in the Life looks like! If you would be interested in guest writing on the old blog here with your own DITL, send me an email (lafrucce@icloud.com)- I think it would be so cool!
***Also, I've had a few people tell me that they would like to comment but they are unable- I'm not sure, but I think you need to have a Google/gmail account to do so. So whether you are able to comment or not, thanks so much for reading!***
