daddy's day

Even though it was technically Jon's day, I have to confess that all four of us had a pretty fantastic Father's Day! It started off with giving Jon his gifts (that the kids must have unwrapped about 10 times over the past week), and per Jon's request, a breakfast of whole-wheat waffles (recipe here) which were eaten on the floor over a game of Memory.

In addition to the large amount of handprint-footprint art the kids made for him, we also got Jon an outdoor fireplace. The kids were pretty excited to help him build it...for about 10 minutes. After that, they wanted to play in the sprinkler, (which held their attention much longer) followed by a little outdoor lunch on the grass.

For dinner, we had Jon's parents over for tacos, and we capped off the night by roasting marshmallows in the new fireplace. (I also made a Frozen Key Lime Pie, but after the taco-gluttony that occurred out there, the pie ended up being there for show).

We had so much fun celebrating "Daddy's Day" this year (despite the taco hangover I had this morning). Jon and I joke around about each other all the time, but really,  the truth is that Jon is just about the best Dad around. I know he loves our kids more that anything in the world, and they love him just as much.
